What is Alexandrite?
Alexandrite is a fascinating, magical stone that changes colors depending on the light. In sunlight it is green and in lamplight/incandescent light it is red. Jewelers say that Alexandrite is an "emerald by day, ruby by night." Naturally occurring Alexandrite is quite expensive and the price increases depending on the hue of greens and reds or the degree of color change the stone undergoes. This color change happens because of the rare occurrence of chrome impurities in this oxide of aluminum and beryllium.
